David Scott Changes View on Iraq

Rep. David Scott (left), who serves the south suburbs in Congress, has changed his view on Iraq. (He also has a poll on the question at his Web site right now.)

Andre at Georgia Unfiltered compares a 2004 quote given the Clayton County paper with a more recent quote given the Macon paper to come up with the switch.

Back then it was "If we leave there with the job incomplete, the terrorists will win."  Now  it's "We cannot go the course we've been going on because we are being viewed as an occupier."

Is this principle? No, according to Andre, it's politics:

I'm not saying that it's not possible for a person to change his position on an issue, but it seems mighty convenient that Rep. Scott drastically reversed his position on the war in Iraq when he has a challenge in the Democratic primary next year, and, when most public opinion polls show that support for the war in Iraq is down to 40% or lower.

Of course, the story could be a southern Congressman feels forced to become dovish on Iraq due to pressure from supporters. But however you get re-elected.
