Bigger Dick's Than Galyans
When Buckhead Commons went in, several years ago, there was a major to-do over the fact that one of the major tenants, Galyan's, was refusing to follow one of the promises made by the developers, the idea that the store would be open to the street, not just the parking lot.
After much complaint, a compromise was reached. Galyan's put a button on the outer door, facing Peachtree, and anyone who wanted to come in would mash that button (it was a big button). Someone would come along to let them in.
Well, Galyan's was bought this year. Dick's Sporting Goods bought 'em.
And guess what happened to the button?
Gone.
Instead you've got paper signs demanding that you enter through the parking lot.
Does anyone in power in Buckhead care at all for promises made to pedestrians? This is not some obscure part of the world. It's the corner of Roxboro and Peachtree. There's a strip center right across the street, anchored by a Border's Books. Lenox Square is a block south, Philpps Plaza across the street, and Filene's Basement has no problems keeping its outside doors open.
Do Buckhead landlords EXPECT that as we move from store to store, shopping center to shopping center, within a four block radius, that we're to move our cars each time, from parking lot to parking lot, across crowded intersections, in order to be "good" shoppers?
If not, stop being Dick's.
