Tony Simon Voic.Us Blogger of the Week

Voic.Us is recognizing Tony Simon as its first Blogger of the Week.

Tony's blog is called Gratuitous Dumbassitude, and it's a pretty eclectic place. Just this week, for instance, he has offered a meditation on the nature of a great musical experience, an examination of Wikipedia through its entry on carbon dioxide, and a hilarious piece about trying to eat lunch at one's desk.

His writing style might best be thought of as hell-bent-for-leather, rushing through thoughts to other thoughts, and truly blogolicious. Following is just one sample paragraph from this week:

Today was the first day I had ever eaten soup from a little cup at my desk, and I took plenty of time to make sure I could pull it off without leaving any sort of Mmm Mmm Residue. I took the first bite and quickly realized I had an entirely different problem. My injection-moulded plastic spoon had a razor-sharp edge on one side that sliced the holy hell out of my lip with each bite. I tried multiple different maneuvers, but anything that came close to working also took me dangerously close to flinging chicken noodley goodness all over my department. How can one eat hot soup without allowing the corners of one’s mouth touch the razor sharp edges of the spoon? In the end, I tossed the spoon and carefully drank the soup like a cup of coffee.

That's just one paragraph, mind you. (Tony no likee the carriage return.) You've got to be pretty good to pull this kind of writing off. Tony's pretty good. Imagine if Holden Caulfield had grown up and were walking around Atlanta right now, then you some idea of what Simon's writing is about.

It's a great trip. Enjoy it.
